When Are They Going to Teach Me the “Marketing” part of MLM?

When I got started in the MLM industry, I was told to make a list of everyone I know, family members, friends, and colleagues. I was to have at least 50 people on my list before I started contacting them. If this sounds familiar, its because that’s what has been taught from the early Amway days.

I guess that’s as good a beginning as any I suppose. So you’ll get to perfect and practice your “pitch” on about 50 people or so. You’ll probably even have one or two of them join your “organization”, which will spur you on to greater heights. You’ve now blown through 50 people or so of which NONE of them were typically the slightest bit interested in starting a business, selling lotions or potions or anything else, and you are now on the prowl to find your next victim.

I’m Through My List, Now What???

But soon, usually a lot sooner than we’d hoped, we have come to the end of our list. So the REAL test as to whether you’ll make it in the MLM or Network “Marketing” industry is to learn to “prospect” using the 3 foot, do they fog a mirror rule. If you are an Extrovert, this isn’t much of a stretch, but if you are an Introvert, your world just came to a screeching halt. Go anywhere people hang out, the Mall, football or basketball games, etc. and if someone comes within 3 feet of you, pounce on them like a cougar that hasn’t eaten in about 3 weeks. If you don’t like rejection but you’d like to get used to it, I highly recommend the 3 foot, fog a mirror rule because you’ll get a lot of it.

Some how, blasting through my “warm market” is considered MARKETING. Well I hate to break the news to you, but turning off your family and friends is NOT a marketing strategy. Its a start, but its JUST that, its NOT your entire marketing strategy.

So let’s get down to the basics of Marketing 101.

Marketing is a Process

  • Its defining your Unique Selling Proposition, in other words, what makes you DIFFERENT from all your competitors?
  • Its branding yourself, making yourself Memorable, think about the Geico gekko
  • Its defining markets, finding those that DESIRE what you have and defining that Niche.
  • Its positioning yourself as an Expert, people do business with people and they are looking for someone they can trust.
  • So becoming an Expert and providing value to your potential customer will start building relationships and trust.

What I’ve just described is what is known as “Attraction Marketing“. It goes against the flow of what we see everyday in advertisements. Open up the Yellow Pages and look at 1/8th or 1/4 page ads. Do a Google search for some kind of service. They all look the same, free estimate, we’re the best, etc.

I Don’t Know What I Don’t Know

I had a friend that bought a house with a pool. The pool had a fence around it just like the law required, but the gate was broken. So he went to the Yellow Pages and found “gates”, a couple dozen actually. He didn’t know what he doesn’t know, so how do you pick one? None of them offered anything of value so his chances of getting a good gate for his application was pretty slim. Had just ONE of them offered a free report EDUCATING him about the various kinds of gates available for his pool and fence type would have pretty much cemented his relationship with that company.

As an exercise, figure out what information you could offer to educate your potential customer about some dangers or insider secrets that will help them start to trust you as the Expert. If you have a Yellow Pages or SuperPages ad, offer your customers a free report, it costs you little or nothing, but it will set you apart and start building a trusting relationship so that they will seek you out when they want what you have. If you do Pay-per-click ads, incorporate the free report and warning in the PPC ad.

I hope this information helps you in expanding your Marketing and that you learn to be a very successful MLM/Network Marketer.

Do You Have a Play Jar?

You may be asking what a “Play Jar” is, and it would be a valid question so let me explain. If you’re not familiar with “The Jars” as a system to increase Net Worth and get you organized to manage your money like the rich do, here it is. T. Harv Eker founded Peak Potentials and has free weekend seminars called the Millionaire Mind Intensive which is a blast. In the seminar they teach you a very simple system of paying yourself first and building your Golden Goose so you can retire early and save for continuing education, charity, necessities, and long term goals such as children’s college, a new car, boat, exotic vacation, or second home, but none is more important I believe than the PLAY jar.

Do You have a Play Jar? Let me ask you a few questions at this point; When was the last time you just “blew” $200 on a day at the spa? Or Have you ever passed up a sporting event because you “just didn’t believe you had the money”? Have you ever rented a Yacht for a day, a Ferrari, taken ALL your girlfriends (for the women) on a shopping spree? My guess is that not many of us can say yes to any of those questions! Why? Don’t you deserve to treat yourself well. You are the one who just traded all those hours for those dollars, shouldn’t you enjoy some of it? Of course you should! But we don’t, at least I didn’t until I started using The Jars. The PLAY jar is designed to have you put 10% of what you make each paycheck into an account that is specifically set aside for you to indulge yourself. “Blowing” that money is what you are SUPPOSED to do every month, buy something you normally wouldn’t, take a Limo out for dinner instead of driving, eat at a restaurant that has No dollar amounts on it. You see we work and work and work and yet DON’T even reward ourselves for doing so. Well who taught us that???

Fire them, it just ain’t so. As I’ve recently started The Jars system, I decided to go to a Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban concert here in Wichita that I was going to pass up for some unknown reason. But finally decided that “I” was worth it and that I didn’t want to live regretting not going like I had several times in the past. Regret is one of the worst feelings in the world, I DON’T recommend it and with The Jars system, you don’t have to anymore. A few examples that I kick myself for even all these years later.

Wimbledon- I was in Scotland from mid June to mid July 1978, now that may not mean anything to you UNLESS you’re a tennis fan like I am. During that time period is the Wimbledon Championships and I was only about 150 miles from them and DIDN’T go. To this day I still don’t understand why I didn’t.

US Tennis Open- A few years later I was in New York during the month of September, which happens to be when the U.S. Open Tennis Championships are, was only a subway ride away from one of the biggest tennis events of the year, but didn’t go. Don’t have a clue why!

World Trade Center- In the summer of 1977, was in New York looking at the just finished World Trade Center and debating with myself whether to spend the $1.70 to take the elevator ride to the Observation Deck on the 110th floor, that time I “splurged” and after what happened on 9/11 am so glad I got to experience it.

One of the biggest problems in marriage is the finances. One may be a spender, the other a saver/hoarder.

The Fighting Stops NOW- Have you ever FOUGHT with your significant other over blowing money on something you really enjoyed or over them “wasting” money? Well, with The Jars system, each of you can have your OWN Play Jar which (by design) allows you to spend, blow, waste, or treat yourself however you want WITHOUT the other passing judgment or dictating how its to be “Played” with. This ONE jar will set you free to really enjoy and reward yourselves for the hard work you’ve put in.

You DO Deserve it! Your biggest stumbling block is that you won’t think you deserve it. Well let me straighten that out right now! If your busting your backside trading hours for dollars, you darn well deserve it! Okay?

Repeat after me: I deserve it!
Now isn’t that better? Of course it is, so just as Nike strongly recommends: Just Do It.

Can’t You Come Up with Just One More Degree?

One of my favorite stories is about the boiling point of water. I know that sounds geekish, but just hear me out as you’ll find it to be very inspirational.

At 211 degrees F, you get very hot water, water that will scold you. What you DON’T have is water that can do ANY work. By increasing the water temp to 212 degrees, you go from very hot water, to water that can move a locomotive train. Simple Truths has an excellent video on this. Watch it!

Adding just 1 more degree, it releases energy that can accomplish all kinds of results.

If you are contemplating quitting, maybe its just that extra degree that you need to put you over the top.

Zig Ziglar says most people stick with something just long enough to see the majority of things that DON’T work, but quit just short of finding out what DOES work for them.

Listen my friend, EVERYONE is in sales, whether its selling your girlfriend on which restaurant and movie to see, convincing your boss that you have added value to the company and thus deserve a raise, or selling your kids on eating their vegetables! So if your already in sales, it stands to reason that you should educate yourself on selling and become the very best you can to get the most benefit from it.

In MyMoneyJars, I teach that 7%-10% of what you make should go into a fund that YOU spend on your own education. Getting training series from Zig Ziglar and Brian Tracy are some of the best you can get for the money you spend. If you’ll do this ONE thing, it will be that EXTRA degree that turns you into a powerhouse and can put you in the top 1% of money earners in the country, possibly in the whole world.

Commit yourself to doing what successful people do, adding that extra degree! If you’ll do what the 97% who fail in Network Marketing refuse to do, learn everything you can about marketing and sales, learn all the things that DON’T work for you till you find what DOES, set some goals, make a plan, and put that plan into action, then you’ll find yourself living the good life. Being financial free. Working because you WANT to, not because you HAVE to.

So turn it up a notch, get that extra 1 degree that turns water into steam. Champions dig just a little deeper than the losers. Don’t you want to be a Champion? If not, then quit, get back to your 9 – 5 JOB, eek out an existence, make just enough to pay your bills or as things tighten up a bit, just NOT quite enough to pay all your bills.

As the legendary Jim Rohn says, getting wealthy in America is EASY. Its hard in Haiti, Indonesia, China, El Salvidor, and Peru, in America its EASY!

There’s no better time than today, in a down economy there are more and more people looking for an opportunity to pay all the bills, pay them ahead of time, and to make a terrific living in this day and age. Maybe you could be the one to teach them to Conquer the Internet.

Are You IN the Game???

Wealth File #2
“Rich people play the money game to win;
Poor people play the money game to NOT lose”.

Declaration:
“My goal is to become a millionaire and more!”

Wealth Files #1 & #2 flash: (1 minute 48 seconds)

If you’ve ever played any kind of game or sports, you know the “feeling” when you have a burning desire to WIN versus that feeling of just trying to survive or not getting demolished.

The Money Game is NO different.  It IS a game. You need to decide to WIN the Money Game instead of just surviving or just “getting by”.

Poor people are in the survival mode, hoping to make enough to just pay their bills, and amazingly enough, that’s what they make, and not one dime more.

The Middle class do a bit better, they are in the “comfortable” mode, where they make a bit more than just paying their bills so they can take a nice vacation without doing the camping bit but staying in a fairly nice hotel, or going out to dinner once in awhile.  They still order off the right side of the menu.

Most people get involved in the MLM or Network Marketing industry to achieve financial freedom. Yet they drudge through life barely surviving. The Network Marketing industry has made more multi-millionaires than any other industry except real estate.

There is NO better industry to WIN the Money Game that the MLM or Network Marketing industry. So change your attitude, get committed, quit treating your business like a hobby and make it a real business, set some SMART goals, make a plan, and take action.

The best book I’ve read on turning my MLM business around is no doubt Mike Dillard’s Magnetic Sponsoring. Go and get it today, I promise, if you read it and use the information, it will change your life and business FOREVER!

If you are committed to become comfortable, you’ll never become rich,
but if you are committed to become rich, you’ll end up being VERY comfortable.

Earl Nightingale, Napolean Hill, Norman Vincent Peale, Jim Rohn, Brian Tracy, T. Harv Eker and so many others that teach on attaining Success all teach that what we THINK about is what we achieve.

Here’s a HUGE secret:
It takes no more energy to think on WINNING the Money Game than it does to survive or to NOT lose the Money Game, so why waste that energy on Not Losing or Surviving when you could think on Winning the Game instead.

If I can win, YOU can win.
If others have won, YOU can win too.

Set your mind to winning the Money Game and you will become amazed at how circumstances start to change and you start winning more and more.

Are You a Victim or a Victor?

A positive mental attitude is certainly part of it, but its much, much more as you’ll learn here.

Wealth File #1
“Rich people believe THEY create their life.”
“Poor people believe life happens TO them.”

Declaration: (to be said out loud)
I create my exact level of Financial and Personal Success!

Wealth Files #1 & #2 flash: (1 minute 48 seconds)

If you have a “victim” mentality, GET RID OF IT THIS VERY MOMENT!

If you think you are a victim, then you will live into that story, and if you think you control your destination, then you’ll live into THAT story. Choose your story well!

Yes there can be circumstances that we do not control, but the vast majority of our life comes from what we think about and set our minds to.

If you’ve ever “gotten up on the wrong side of the bed”, and your whole day was rotten, the same thing happens for your whole life too. If you dwell on the negative or the “crap” in your life, T. Harv Eker says you become a “crap magnet”.

No one WANTS to be a crap magnet, so if you find yourself in the midst of crap, I’d highly recommend that you change what you’re dwelling on.

We control our mood, NOT vice versa.  When we find ourselves in a negative mood, recognize it and change it by going to a “happy place”.

That might be a great memory of something that happened to you or a serene place such as the beach or a garden, not physically necessarily unless easily accessible.

Take control, its YOUR mood, not someone elses.

Whatever is true,
whatever is honorable,
whatever is right,
whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely,
whatever is of good repute,
if there is any excellence and
if anything worthy of praise,
let your mind dwell on these things.

I’m self employed because I wanted to be the Captain of my ship.  No one else is to blame for my failure and no one else can take the credit for my success.

Me and me alone, I am in charge – of my circumstances, my relationships, my mood and attitudes, my success or failure.

YOU create your exact level of success.

Declaration:  ”I create my exact level of Financial and Personal Success.”
